Texas Stock Rally – Christmas Day Show

I grew up going to car shows in the 80s and 90s. My parents and I drove from Odessa to Louisville, KY in 1992 for the NSRA Nationals. This was during Boyd Cottington’s heyday. Chip Foose wasn’t mainstream. I suppose if you’re an enthusiast, you’ll find yourself at a car show on the weekends. Good people, good music, solid views. I had the pleasure of spending Christmas day with my mom and girlfriend at the annual Christmas day get together that’s put on by Texas Stock Rally at the Cracker Barrel in Midland, TX.

You can see photos of the event here. There’s always a little bit of everything for everyone.

5.0 Magazine: The 1,300hp Terminator

For those of you that don’t know, I spent a lot of time shooting for various automotive magazines, mainly for Motortrend and the magazines that were published by them. I earned a number of covers and multi-page features. There were times that I shot the photos and wrote the article. This feature in 8 Lug Magazine was one of those instances.

5.0 Magazine Cover: Tyler’s 200+ MPH Mustang

This Mustang was the most versitile vehicle I’ve shot to date. Most cars and trucks have a specific purpose for the owner. Tyler Garcia’s ’90 Mustang was quite the opposite. If he wants to run the standing mile, he changes the transmission and rear end. If he wants to go drag racing he does the same. For this shoot, the focus (no pun intended) was on the car running standing miles. My son and I attended TX2K24 and saw Tyler stand it on it’s rear end in a high stakes drag race. The car still has it.

8 Lug Magazine: Stock to Rockin’ in 14 Days

This is another build from Maximum Altitude in San Antonio, TX that was featured in 8 Lug Magazine. I had the pleasure of shooting and writing the feature on this truck. It may sound dramatic, but the team at Maximum Altitude finished the truck 2 hours before the shoot. I made a number of contacts from this shoot. The images of the Fuel Wheels were used by Fuel Wheels, Monster Hooks and Toyo Tires each used images from this shoot for the respective marketing materials.

Truckin’ Magazine: Cover and Feature

If you’re a budding automotive photographer, you have dreams and aspirations of shooting for the magazines you read. I’m a well rounded “car guy”, but I have an affinity for trucks. They can be lifted or they can be slammed. I’m an equal opportunity lover of all things cool.

I knew this truck was special when I was assigned the project, but when I saw it in person, I was awestruck. this was my first shoot for Truckin’ so I had a level of what they expect after years of reading the magazine. So…I gave it my best effort which ultimately led me to my first cover of Truckin’. It was such an honor. You can read the Truckin’ feature here, or you can view the photos from the session here.

I had the pleasure of getting to know the owner, Jerret (right) and his friend Tom (left) during the shoot and we became text buddies for a while after that. Sadly, Jarrett passed away just a couple of weeks before the issue came out. He never saw his beast on the cover with him driving it. RIP
